Lighting problems
07/07/13 at 21:47:16

My headlight does not work at all, lo or hi beams. My brake light is on all the time, and the left turn signals don't flash- they just stay bright. Any suggestions on where to start? I am not electrically-minded at all.

you got bulb?
there's a connector inside the headlight shell, make sure it's plugged in
check for 12 volts at the connector

rear brake switch may be adjusted too tight
the front has a funky switch, check it

maybe a bad flasher

you got clymer... you gonna need one.

I can check the rear brake light cable tomorrow. The rest will have to wait until I can get a voltmeter.

You can obtain wiring diagrams in the Technical Section, they are listed in the LINKS section......or I have copied it here:

My rear brake light switch is sticking. Once it's out it doesn't want to go back in. It isn't adjusted too tight, either. I think the problem lies here:

There is a divot in this rod (which may or may not be visible in the photo), and the spring/washer is catching on it and preventing it from returning to its original position (off). Rather than order a new switch, can I just file this one down a little until it's smooth again?

I give up......which brake rod is that?  Both the rear brake and brake light switch are cable operated.  And the front brake switch is a tiny plastic thingy!

id rather see ya clean it up & put something on it you can sand down. get pretty skinny just working that divot out. i filled some grooves on hydraulic rams w/ JB weld & smoothed w/ sandpaper.
remember, making epoxy stay starts w/ clean & dry & making that first pass pressed into the object, wetting the surface, not just dobbed on, once that first contact is made, then apply sufficient to fill. you mite be ahead pullint it apart & chucking the rod in a drill to finish it. Of course , sloppy on= pita later.

is that plastic? howd it get in that shape? is the ID it works in ragged?

Dave, it's the small rod that sits inside the rear brake light switch connecting to the brake light cable from the foot peg.

Justin- that's a great idea I hadn't thought of. I have some quick steel that should  work just fine. I'll make sure to clean the crap out of it, too! As for how it got that way, I have no idea. Hell, I have some chips and divots in me, and I'm only two years older than the bike.
