i'm about to install my raptor petcock.i bought the 5/32 rubber vacuum caps. Will they really fit, they look so small? Also to hold the vacuum caps on,can i use permetex gasket sealer?another question ,if i use a screw and gasket sealer, should the screw fit tight, a sheet metal screw ,or say a brass machine screw? if the screw isn't that tight ,the gasket sealer will hold it in,right?thanks

Just use a rubber cap, and put a spare in the took kit.  No reason to use sealer or screws.......the caps work just fine.

I use a 3/16" cap. It fits well. They appear to rot quickly so keep a spare or 2. I replaced mine with a 7/32" in a pinch. Well, that pinch has 1000 miles on it and it seems to be fine. One day I will remember to put my newly purchased 3/16" one on.  Embarrassed

Am I going to have a hard time trying to get the 5/32 on ,or should I take it back and get the 3/16? I haven't opened them yet. Thanks for your answers.

I don't know. 5/32 is 2.5/16. Or 3/16 is 6/32, however you wish to view it. It is close to what I use. I know I only pay a couple dollars for a fistful of sizes here so I imagine you didn't pay much. Give them a shot. If it is too tight, spray a little WD40 in it and try again. If it still won't go, toss them in the tool box, don't buy a coffee tomorrow, and you came out even. Smiley

The little red vent cap off a new battery is the perfect size, ask your local bike shop to save them for you. I assume you are talking about the vacuum port on the carb casting?

Yeah, the vacuum port cap. I tried to get 3/16, but all they had were real long . I think I can use the 5/32 size, they recommend it in the tech section.Thanks.

I installed the raptor petcock, the bike runs better, plus it doesn't stall anymore. The 5/32 caps fit good,no problem. For a minute I thought I'd have to take the tank off to remove the original petcock, but with a little manuvering it came out.I had to adjust my Idle down a little. Not a big deal job,but pretty good for me.

Now you can move on to cutting it up and making the bike fit you properly...

Good for you! It feels good to do this stuff ourselves. Especially when we learn as we go.

I also noticed my bike ran better and I had to reduce the idle speed when I changed mine.
