What I have to have in my mind before I start...
07/01/13 at 21:40:18

Hi to all again.
In my previous post I mentioned I dropped my bike. No harm's done. But, now comes shopping Smiley

After I had a little accident, I plan to install on my bike the engine guard crash bar. What I have to have in my mind before I start shopping?

After I had a little accident, I plan to install on my bike new pegs. What I have to have in my mind before I start shopping? I saw on many bikes this kind of pegs. Is it really comfortable as it looks? Or something like this?

I was riding my bike several times on local highway 55/60/65 mph. Everything's ok except the very boring, uncomfortable wind. It's not fun at all. I was told I have to buy windshield. What I have to have in my mind before I start shopping?

Thanks.

Floorboards have to be custom mounted. Highway Hawk used to make a set for the Savage, no idea if they still do. Doesn't matter, their parts were always overpriced trash.

If you are going for iso-pegs, get the Emgo knock-offs for 1/4 or less the price (made in the same factory in Taiwan or Korea). I've had Kuryakyn parts on the shelf that you could read the Emgo label through the Kuryakyn one...  Grin

Winsdshield? How tall are you, and do you want to fight with a bargain basement bar mount, or get a good solid fork mounted version? And you look OVER a bike windshield, not through it. Sit on your bike, hands on the grips, kickstand on a piece of 2x4. Have someone hold a yard stick out from your nose, measure from yard stick to top of headlight bucket, subtract 1-2 inches. That is the height you want to get as close to as you can.

Those are floorboards...

My buddy can't stand to ride without them...
I think he's nuts...
I hate them...
I need to be able to flex my ankles...

So, it's just a matter of personal taste...
If you are right, and have good taste, like me... floorboards suck...
... and if you are entirely wrong, and have no taste.... floorboards are good...

Personally,.. I have pedals... Huh...

Hello Afan, it's the wacky whacko again  Cheesy

I agree with Serowbot, footpegs allow you to flex your ankle and "do things"; floorboards... you probably can't even stand on them as you float over a pothole etc.

Go for footpegs which must be at least as wide as the widest part of your boot (normally, at the balls of your feet) and as thick as possible.
Not only will "thin, wiry" footpegs prove to be weak and give way under stress, they are also uncmofortable on long rides.
You want nice, thick, chunky footpegs.

Engine guard.
There should be something available specifically made for the Savage/S40.
Make the best of it and fit small bullet lights for nighttime country riding - when there isn't enough light on the road, just flick them on!

Windshield.
Ideally, the windshield should be as wide as your shoulders, and no higher than your shoulders. You want the wind off your bust, but still have full visibility all around  Smiley
You want to look over it, not through it.
Imagine driving your car with a dirty, grimy windshield and no wipers  Tongue

Also, dirty windshields have the tendency to turn milky white if the oncoming cars in the other direction have the full beam on...  Tongue

if you cant be still for extended periods w/o your joints complaining & needing to move, change positions,, pegs are for you. i cant tolerate any body part not changing angle for long. & sitting in a lane recliner? torture.. my knees hate being straight more than a coupla minutes,

I have only ridden 2 bikes with floorboards.  I don't like having to lift my foot off the floorboad to get to the brake or shifter.  I much prefer my foot on a peg wth my toe on top of the brake.....all the time.  My opinion could change if i spent hours on a freeway going somewhere - but that is not the kind of rding I do.  My riding is country roads and in town......lots of shifting and breaking.

Ooooops......Lots of shifting and braking....and hopefully not much breaking!

I sure have been getting my share of typos and letters typed out of order lately!

Wher you usually buy your parts? Online or local store? If online, what online store you prefer?
Also, is the windshield something I can install by myself or it has to be professional?

I think the windshield will probably make it the most comfortable riding experience. No more wind buffeting over your head. Do it.
