New Rider Savage LS650P

Hello All,

Great forum with tons of information.

I am new rider and just got my permit.

I was given a 86 Savage from my fiance that had been sitting in a garage since 2007.

3,200 miles and there is no rot on the tires.

I filled the tank up and put in a new spark plug and she fired right up.

What other steps should I take besides changing the oil?

Welcome...
I'd still be looking into tires... even without rot,.. they will be fairly dried out, and they must have some degree of flat spotting after sitting so long...
Dried out tires are dangerous...  (don't ask me how I know)...   Roll Eyes...

take a riders safety course. get a full coverage helmet, i prefer modulars, glasses are easier, talking to people w/o taking it off, fresh air at stops.
things in the road in a curve dont upset a car, but a few leaves & a gum ball from a tree can put a bike down. lane position is imortant. making them see you, flash high /low beam, weave in your lane, when it looks like someone wants to turn left across you,,
tires,, they may look fine, but, youre in no position to be riding on anything less than optimal. get quality, fresh rubber on it.

you guys gotta school this lad,, my typing is just tedious

Shinko and Kenda seem popular brands here, I run mid priced Michelleins, others like Pirelli. The rich have Metzlers. Many opt for 140/90 15 rears as the original 140/80 15 is an odd size.

considering the Metz goes twice as far and you only have one change of metz vs. anything else... it actually less expensive... for those of high mileage.
