The Egyptian Museum in Cairo advertised for a vacancy in their "Most Ancient Antiquities" Department.
Many sent their resumés, but only four were chosen.
A Graduate from Yale, USA
a graduate from Oxford, UK
a graduate from the Sorbonne, France,
and a graduate from Naples, Italy.
The Director of Most Ancient Antiquities received them all together in his office, and informed them
"I will now ask you but one question, and whoever gives me the best answer, will get the job".
They all swallowed hard and braced themselves.
"So - asked the Director of Most Ancient Antiquities - what's the fastest thing ever?"
The Yale graduate tried his luck. "Thought" he replied.
"How so?" inquired the Director of Most Ancient Antiquities.
"Because thought is instantaneous, it is like a bolt of lightning in the mind".
"Very good" Commented the Director of Most Ancient Antiquities .
It was the Oxford graduate's turn. "The bat of an eye" he tried.
"How so?" inquired the Director of Most Ancient Antiquities .
"Because the bat of an eye is so instantaneous, it happens before you can even perceive it".
"Very good" Commented the Director of Most Ancient Antiquities .
"Light! - the Sorbonne graduate immediately volunteered - because it's so quick, it is used as the threshhold for the measurement of time! Nothing, nothing at all can be quicker than light!"
The Sorbonne graduate was gleaming and more than certain he had landed the job.
"Very good" Commented the Director of Most Ancient Antiquities .
The Italian graduate groaned, then sighed, then ...
"... the runnies ..."
"What?" Asked the Director of Most Ancient Antiquities, not certain he had understood.
"How do you call it? Diarrhea..."
"Are you making fun of us?" asked the Director of Most Ancient Antiquities angrily.
"My train was late, all restaurants shut, so I had a kebab at a local stand, and last night,
before I could half
think about it, faster than the
bat of an eye, before I could even turn on the
light...
... I had sh!t myself ..."
He got the job
