I have been riding since 1958 and have never been involved in a crash of any kind.

But back in 1975 I was riding a Triumph 650 with two of my riding buddies who were on Harleys. I was leading at around 65 mph when a pickup truck turned left in front in me. There were cars backed up behind him and of course they just came around him. I had it locked up and he got far enough turned where there was around three feet between his truck bed and a car that was passing him. I headed for the small opening and made it. Shocked

I stopped in the road to give him a cussing and my two buddies dang near ran over me. Huh

Still close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades. Cool

I was talking to one of the guys that was riding with me the other day and he brought that up. Due to health reasons he can no longer ride. Sad

I don't remember him ever crashing either.

I went for a 30 minute ride last evening just after dinner.....still plenty of daylight left. As I was approaching an intersection I saw an SUV approach from the left. They stopped for a second....then started rolling forward and I had no idea if they saw me or not. I hit the passing light button and flashed it quickly about 5 times, and I saw the reflection of the 8" headlight and Silverstar bulb on the side of the SUV....and they stopped rolling forward. I am not sure if they were just slowly rolling forward until I passed.....or if they were just about to pulll out in front of me......but it really made me nervous to see them rolling forward as I was going 50 mph toward them.

Question an opinions please. Rather than flash the headlight, I start weaving from side to side to try and get their attention. I read or saw something awhile back that this was an effective way of breaking free from the background and giving the driver a better read on your closing speed. Any data as to which is better?

I will weave when I think someone might pull out in front of me. The idea of creating more eye-caching movement seems like a good idea to me. Also, if I have a vehicle close behind me when turning at an intersection or onto a side road, I will often give a turning hand signal in addition to my direction signals. Again, hoping that the action of waving my hand in the air gets the attention of the driver behind me.
