I have a standard Spitfire Slip Streamer (smoke) windshield that came on my bike from the previous owner. I like the idea of a windshield for protection from rocks and bugs and some wind protection, though most of my 5 mile commute is 35-45mph.

This windshield is great, but I am 5'6" and the top of the windshield is right in my line of vision and I have to hunch down or stretch up to have an unobstructed view, but I ride in little traffic so it isn't that big of a deal.  I can adjust it up and down slightly, but it's still in the general range of vision.

Having said that and as well noting that I only wear a half-helmet and shades (no full helmet for debris protection without a windshield), do you fellow savagers have pics of other windshields on your bike that may be a little shorter than this but still offer a balance of a nice sporty look and protection?  My bike is pretty much stock with saddle bags and windshield so it has to fit a stock bike.

I cut mine down by putting masking tape (or painter's tape) on the front for three or four inches down from the top. I then used a ruler and pen to "transfer" the original top shape a couple of inches lower (to suit). I used a saber saw to cut off the top along the transferred shape line, and sanded the result smooth. If you use a saber saw, go very slowly so the saw cuts the plastic instead of melting it. The tape allowed me to press the saw against the windshield without scratching it up. The shield will want to vibrate to the saw's motion, so you'll have to support it somehow. You can always cut it down an inch at a time, then go for a ride to see if you got it right before you polish out the saw cut.
