2007 ls650 piston from Wiseco

i have a 2007 ls650, the bike was running great and i like it a lot. i live in south texas and it gets really hot. i was driving home when my bike quit working. come to find out that the piston cracked, so i am looking for another one to replace.

i was looking at the Wiseco piston 97.00mm one, but when i talked to them they said that piston might not work from a DR to an LS, i am having a very hard time finding any information about a 2007 ls.

i talked to the dealership and all they offer is a .5 over sized, so that piston will be 95.5.

i plan to keep this bike for a long time if i could, so any suggestions would be really appreciated. thanks

Still running it in so can't provide any long term diagnostics at this point. Very happy.

As Verslagen indicated, the stock Savage piston is 94mm, the stock DR piston size is 95mm. If you decide to put in a Wiseco you will need to rebore.

You may have a cracked piston.....but it may not have damaged the cylinder. You won't know until you pull it apart.

I installed a 95 mm Wiseco in mine, and I love it. You will probablyget a little more power from the 97mm.....but the 95mm is plenty strong. I did get the silicone Carbide treatment on the cylinder wall...maybe that would help you with your Texas heat issue. If you get a Wiseco....make sure you get a reliable company to do the boring. One that knows what they are doing.....you only get one shot at it and it has to be done right.

DR pistons work fine in the savage, but they start at 95mm

Just a note here, that it is the 1990-95 DR650 pistons that will work in the LS650 Savage/S40.
The 1996-present DR650 pistons are the ones that will NOT work in our engines.
Also, Wiseco no longer manufactures the 97mm size for normal stock; it is only available when ordering 12 or more as a special order.

Have you taken the engine apart to determine that the piston is actually cracked?

You can get the cylinder resleeved at a price $$$

Where did you get yours bored, and silicone carbided?
