Raced a 883 Sportster
06/19/13 at 08:53:47

Anyone ever race an 883 Sportster? What was the outcome? Ive been itching to try it, anytime i see one i get excited but i dont want to initiate with the mean face and revs and still lose. I belive i should be able to outaccelerate one at least up to 60 mph. I have an exhaust, Lancer re jet with white spacer mod, and removed fenders.

Depends on whos riding the sportster. If I was riding the Sportster, you might have a chance. If Eddie Krawiec who won the 2012 NHRA motorcycle pro stock championship on a Harley was riding you wouldn't have a prayer. Smiley

In the 1/4 mile, I'm sure the 883 would win (rider skills being the same).

My brother had a 883 and we raced best out of 3 in the 1/8th mile. My S40 took his 883 2 out of 3 times and it was close the one time I lost. We then swapped bikes with the same results. A lot will have to do with rider skills and their reaction times.

Same results = s40 wins 2 outta 3?

Or YOU win 2 outta 3?

In theory, in proper state of tune, the Savage has a better power/weight ratio, so pulling off from a standing start she should have the edge...
Roll Eyes
...in 1st and 2nd gears...

Come to 50+mph, the two bikes start feeling "the wind" and that's where raw hp takes the lead.

The full 1/4 mile is a looong way...

So my feeling is that the Savage is a "comfortably sure" winner on the 1/8th mi.,
and a "probable" winner on the 1/4 mi., provided the rider doesn't waste his one and only advantage - weight.

But once beyond 70mph, the Savage doesn't stand a chance...

The S40 won 2 out of 3. We were only racing 1/8th mile.
The 883 most likely would have won every time if racing 1/4 mile.

Hay guys

I rode Dave's bike a little this past week.   I also have a S-40(2007) and a 883 Sportster(2007).   Dave's bike (Quick !) would take the Sportsters lunch any time it wanted.    but a Standard S-40 woin't.   Rode Rex once too !   Rex is raw,radical-power in a savage frame and light too !!!  Tongue.   The cafe style on  SlimJim seem "Strange" to me so I didn't open it up more than short low RPM spurts (2-4K).  Doing the same thing on the Sportster doesn't have near the grin factor involved. Smiley

The Sportster gets more speed in each gear and the redlines are about the same.  Seems like all bikes have a special something they are really good at.

Stop light to stop light you'll take a 1200, let alone an 883, w/o the bike breaking a sweat. More than that, the old saying "There's no replacement for displacement" comes into the fore front. Much past 1/4 mile, don't bother, the Piglet is going to spank you, and spank you hard.

I don't think so stock 1200 tops out at about 127mph
my hoped up xs pull hard to 125 mph (had to slow down for turns)
it is striped down and big bored and camed. a stock xs tops out about
115 mph so your right a 1200 sprty will beat a stock xs. on top end. Cool

I didn't ride Harleys to race and don't ride a Suzuki S40 to race, although I did race some in my youth, I soon got over it. May be why I am an old biker now. Smiley

I was commenting on LS650, not an XS. There is no comparing between those 2, the XS was/is the better bike. No matter how you hop up and lighten a Savage, an XS650 stone stock is going to smoke it.
