I tried the trash bag method.....it does not work on tight Pirelli tires.  I ended up with a scratch on my new rim......never going to try that method again.  I use the plastic guards that clip over the rim, some Armor All as lube.....and a bit of muscle.

I watched that and then several others... some great tips in there.

A bucket makes a good stand, of course bigger the better... so a trash can be very ergonomic stand.

Use cut up plastic milk bottles to protect the rim.

The advantage of the zip tie/strap method was ease of keeping the bead in the center of the rim.  I've used C clamps on ocassion.

I've also went counter to mounting the spot next to the valve.  It didn't balance, that spot was heavy, so I broke the bead, and spun the tire around till it balanced... no weights... cool.
