Newb rider need help with squeaking
06/06/13 at 00:06:12
Hey guys a first time rider and i brought a 2006 suzuki boulevard and love it. Ive had it for 3 weeks and have notice a squeaking when i accelerate, to me it sounds like its coming from the front wheel but icant be certain, some help would be great, my bike has 22000 kms on the clock and im a major newb who knows nothing about maintenance, checks etc. thanks in advance. Sorry for my ignorance im clueless. Also i have the notorious backfire when decelerating and am wondering if the white spacer mod and petcock swap would help this problem? And are those mods worth it. Thank you

It could be the very common belt chirping sound, especially when cold.
Otherwise maybe check the front belt pulley for tightness.
The backfiring is also very common to these engines, IMO, learn to live w/ it. If you start hacking the carb for the sole purpose of backfire, you could be headed for disaster, and a new carb.
The white spacer mod or the Raptor mod will do nothing for the backfire. The spacer mod should be done only if you have a lean running condition in the in the 1/4 to mid throttle position under light load. A test for this is pulling the choke 1 knotch, if it runs better, big chances are a 1/2 spacer mod will correct it.

What are you calling a

?
If it's just popping... get used to it.
If it KERPOWing, then its worth looking into.
Look at the header bolts and muffler clamp, loose fittings will cause air leaks which cause more pops.

maybe belt alignment.
take a look at the rear pulley, if the belt is tracking hard to one side, that could be your squeak.

Hey thanks again.
It just pops now, it doesnt kaapow. Its kaapowed once but I think thats because I was killing her with my bad riding. its seems not too bad now tho, but I will try the choke tip and get back to you cheers.
It seems to me that the only trouble im having at the moment is when Im going slow. like 1st and 2nd gear,
for example I was behind a real slow truck that was holding up traffic on a pretty steep hill and the bike struggled to go that slow?
Its not happy to stay in that low gear with out getting the jitters.
although its not so bad now I think its because Im getting better at riding her now?
Thanks in advanced.

Check the o-ring on the filler cap. They wear out after a while.
