THe cylinder imght be salvagable.....the piston isn't.

How much oil was in the engine?  Trying to figure out if the problem was heat.....or lack of oil.

the oil was at almost 3/4 in sight glass.
the oil was only 300 miles old but it looked old already.

20 minutes @ 80 MPH may just be a bit much,, maybe my
" I try to not push stuff past 80% of Max" is a good idea?

When on the highway how long would you recommend going at 70 - 75 before it really needs a break?  Thanks.

Ill let you decide,, what ever youre comfortable with,, Me? I know what it can run. One day is different from another,, some days 85 is all she'll do,, some days, 100 MPH isnt impossible,, I act accordingly.. I dont baby it, I run the snot out of it, but,, when it comes to sustained high speeds, I back off & let things cool down a bit every so often,

Earlier you said "I just did bore it and put a wiseco piston in it".  My guess would be that it wasn't bored out to a large enough diameter for the piston or maybe it didn't have a long enough break in period.

Some people put the over bored cylinder and the new piston in an oven and then check the clearance when both are hot because the clearance at operating temperature might be different.  Or maybe you checked all those dimensions and just had some bad luck.

Anyway, sorry you are out all that money and time.
