Was wondering thought on or if anyone has considered a velocity stack for the savage?

Other than looking nice......I don't believe it would accomplish much.  Having an unrestricted intake is going to make jetting interesting, there is no way to filter the air, the CV carb that is not famous for high air flow, and the engine is not tuned in a way that favors high air flow in or out of the engine.  Velocity stacks are probably best suited to high air flow, high rpm engines...........which is not what the Savage is all about.

I am sure you could put one on the Savage....but I am not sure that it would get you any performance gain.  It is not going to do anything at low rpms as the air flow is very low and the carb only allows a small opening when the butterfly is partially open....and at high rpms the engine is running out of air flow from the restrictive valves. cam timing, head and exhaust design.  The engine is designed to make torque at low rpms....not horsepower at high rpms.

Wow,, thats a good post,,

I've had a velocity stack made and put the bike on a dyno. Horsepower went up to 35 form 31, and torque made only a tiny increase.

If anyone is interested I have one another one for sale.

Yeah, but what RPM was the gain taken at and how often do you ride at that RPM.

Dyno runs are often misleading. Huh

Velocity stacks properly designed will give laminar flow air with the least restriction to the carb.

As such, there is no filtration and sacrifices the life of the engine to the great god of speed.  Usually, for a purpose, this is acceptable.

If for vainity... I fart in your general direction.   Shocked

I'll see if I can find it. No other mods to engine, it's absolutely stock. This velocity stack has a fine mesh screen as tested and can be fitted with an extra oiled-foam filter.

Even If you give proper cooling intervals between each dyno run, the results will vary between 1 to 3%. Most will try to correct for this but its not exact every time.

No it was not stock. But the point is that, with no other changes to the engine, the velocity stack gave an increase in horsepower of 13 percent. A big jump and enough to negate the variances found between dyno runs--which is still the best tool we have for measuring performance.
