power loss after highway cruise

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it. So I was riding on the freeway the other day and I had to pass a car to switch lanes so I gave it more throttle to pass picking the speed up to around 85. I held it there for about 20-30 seconds and then passed the car and went back down to 70. When I exited the freeway and got to the stop light it felt like my engine was dying. I know it wasn't out of gas cuz I literally filled it up right before I got on the freeway. Anyway the light turned green and then I had to give the bike about twice as much throttle as normal in order for it to accelerate. It just felt really dead and unresponsive. As if the engine went from a 650 to a 250. I got home and shut it off and that night about 5 hrs later I took it for a test ride. It was hard starting at first and it seemed a little weak in power but after 5 mins it seemed back to normal. Now it runs fine but I hear something like a faint buzzing noise coming from the left side of the engine. Can anyone make sense of what happened? Thanks.

usually, that's outtadoor speed. but I do manage it in the morning ocassionally. Grin

everybody notices when mr excite walks in. Grin

will hurt your bike? don't think so. But you probably have some jetsome, or flotsome swimming around in your carb that got aggitated and sucked up into a jet. I'd drop the bowl and remove the slide, spray some carb cleaner, dislodge the dead cats, blow out the air filter and drain the airbox.

Wait, what?? I commute daily on the freeway and periodically am at this speed for 2-15 minutes. Is that damaging my engine? Shocked

Short bursts are no big deal, but extended operation at higher than 80% of max is just hurtful. That the crank & rod are on rollers is a good thing I think,

Yes it did go higher rpms. It felt like I had to give it gas to keep it alive.
