So i finally found out what is really going on with my bike. thanks to Versy for showing me it was an electrical problem. basically one of the first things my brother and I did on this bike when I got it was replaced the stator because we thought that was causing the dying on the freeway problem (which was actually caused by improper jetting). we ended up in a situation where we didn't know what wires from the stator connected to what wires from the voltage regulator or whether it even mattered.
I'm in the same situation now because those wires burned up, probably because we didn't hook it up right. you might not see in the picture but that connector I'm holding that still has wires attached to it is spliced to the wires coming from the regulator. even though it fried the connectors downstream that splicing is probably wrong.
  So any of yall know how how to go about fixing this?¿?

The three yellow wires?... I don't think it makes any difference which is which on the connector... all three, just deliver AC voltage...
...(at least,.. I hope not)... Huh...

Yeah, that is a problem. Can you wait till we do the valve adjustment in a couple weeks? I have the wiring diagrams in the Clymers book, otherwise maybe the other members can give an idea what you need to do based on what circuits you have remaining.

Each individual wire can be removed from the "plug" by tripping the retainer. YOu can rebuild the connector unless the plastic is melted,

nah she's my only transportation so I gotta fix her tonight. all I was really wondering is whether it mattered what wires want to what. I called some bike mechanics and they telling me it dont matter jst like serowbot sugested. so lets cross our fingers hahah

here's what I got for the charging circuit wiring...



pretty simple... eh?
and it doesn't matter which wire goes where.
you should have continuity (low resistance) between any 2 wires coming from the stator.

next...
open circuit voltage.
disconnect the plug with all the yellow wires and connect any 2 circuits with a voltmeter set above 100 volts ac.
start her up and rev it up, you should get more than 100v each pairs of wires at 5000 rpm.

regulator.
check the resistance on the yellow wires of the regulator.
any 2 should be greater than 1 k ohm.

Awesome Versy! I got it started the other night after I worked on it and ran around the freeway just chargin the battery a bit. I don't have a motorcycle battery charger, or any battery charger for that matter. anyway the batteries got sufficient charge to just start right up.

Ok there is continuity between any two wires coming from the stator - good.
When I started it up and connect any two wires from the stator then throttled it up, I got increasing voltage all the way up till about 90-something vac. I don't have a tachometer but the higher I throttled it the more voltage the stator pumped out. I had my head right next to the engine so I might not have gotten it all the way up to 5000. so I think that's good - good
I couldn't get any resistance from the regulator whether the bike was on or not. I set my voltmeter till it read kohms like you said and couldn't read anything from the regulator but could read the resistance from one of my hands to the other. so is my regulator pooped?

Right yes infinite resistance. I followed that link but I'll never be able to understand that kinda number crunchin stuff. Numbers fall outta boogermans head.
I'm trying to wrap my head around why the regulator would be bad if my battery was charging while the engine is running. I mean after a quick putt this morning around the neighborhood with what I did jammin on the freeway last night and my bike starts up just fine. I would almost be afraid that it's charging too much and is going to fry my battery and that's why my wires fried. I don't know, maybe not, what do I do now?¿

are you getting 14 to 15 volts when you rev it up?

No actually the voltage goes down. its starts off 13.xx vac then when i rev it on up it goes down in the 12volt range. wtf? actually the more i think bout it the more i suspect it to b a prob with timing. the more i think bout timing the more i suspect that this thing on the wiring diagram called an ignighter my have gotten damaged when the wires burnt up, or possibly the pickup next to the stator. does that pickup have an adjustment that could come loose and change the timing?

you gotta orange and a green wire for the pickup going to the CDI.

the regulator doesn't connect to the CDI at all.

suspect that you got a bad regulator.

check all your wires

and it's possible, the discharged battery might be keeping it from it's maximum voltage.
