I keep running across different flavors of factory bikes they claim are cafe and I like them all so far. I really need a bigger freaking bank account  Angry

I'd call the first two, standards...
The RE gets 100% cafe' designation, if you give it lower clip-ons or clubmans...

I love that RE tank...

+1

I really don't get people who classify anything with a "normal, 1960's look" as "cafe racer".

THIS is an example of Royal Enfield Clubman (cafè racer) : Notice the "proper" speedo. Notice the "proper" riding stance.

THIS IS NOT A CAFE RACER

That looks like a bike from zero Engineering in Japan.

I also like the look of the sixties and seventies standard bikes.  They were great bikes, good seating position, great for daily riding.  I toyed with the idea of buying a Sym, it really captures that Honda CB look.

The Sym is, I am told, built in Tawain by a company that is considered to be reputable and at one time was associated with Honda, you'll notice a strong similarity between this bike and the Honda CB125s.  The company has a large Asian market for small displacement bikes and scooters.  It would probably be a good daily rider, not fast but fun.

The Cleveland seems to be a cobbed up affair with some guy buying parts from various Chinese suppliers and having them bolted together to capitalize on some current fads.  I wouldn't want to bet any money on them being in business very long.

The Enfield, well everyone knows their story, they have been building bikes in India for a long time.  I have known people who have owned Indian Enfields and most part with them in a couple years or so.  They don't seem to make great daily riders but they look really cool.

The Suzuki TU250X is a nice looking retro standard and comes with all the engineering and dealer support of a major manufacturer.  Then there are the Triumphs, very nice.

The new Royal Enfield UCE engines are an entirely different beast from the classic Bullets. Don't get me wrong they aren't "practically wrenching free" like most Jap bikes. but they are a huge step forward for RE and much more reliable.

I kinda like the Cleveland, a CL100 frame with a rather CL305 looking tank. Come to think of it, the CL100 in the barn could possibly wear the CL250 race tank off the retired, likely never to run again ex-race bike that's rotting away at my blacksmith shop...

The SYM looks like a TU250 that's missing a few parts...  Roll Eyes

Indian Enfields...hmm... if I could get one of the 350cc police bikes... I'd get it in a heart beat. It's actually a better made machine than the 500.

The TU250 is a beautiful little bike. I wouldn't mind having one to terrorize the local back roads. But, I've learned my lesson, no more Suzukis unless they are air-cooled GS four poppers, I had a GS750T that could not be damaged, no matter what we did to it. I'd still like to have a different Savage for every day of the week, each done in a different era's style/genre, but, the lack of o.e.m. support in the way of parts and upgrades, not to mention the less than impressive q.c., incompetent dealership staffs, etc...

The Wolf is defiantly a standard but it has possibilities as it comes with clipons instead of standard bars.

But I do much prefer standards over having to choose between a cruiser and sport bike.

I get back pains just looking at this picture.  THe bike makes you ride in a curved shoulder slouch.....then backs that up with a hardtail where you are directly over the tire and no seat springs!

I have hit a couple of holes on my Savage that made my spine compress.....can't imagine what would have happened if I had hit those potholes on this bike.

If I go looking for "traction".....it is does not involve a bed, weights and pulleys.

Having rode many miles on the old REs , I can say they were pretty lousy
I have heard the newer ones are way better , I have not ridden one so I cant say for sure. It sure is a looker , it's my favorite look for motorcycles

If one of you guys gets a look at the Royal Enfield ,I got to ask just behind the cylinder, there looks to be a magneto , next time you see one let me know please.     thanks   Mick

I would suspect that is the starter......just like on our Savages.

Yea the RE UCE has an alternator under the side cover so it's not a magneto, most likely a starter like Dave suggested  Smiley
