Thumper is turning 100.

That is, the bike I own that is known as Thumper.  That is 100,000 miles, not years.

The ride will be done on May 5.

Hope to have a few friends along behind me and take them on roads they have never seen before up in the Texas Hill Country.

I am going to try to "time" it so I am at a decent place with scenery for a photo op when the speedo goes all 9's.

I think the bike had 2,500 on it when I bought it.. 7+ years ago.

Mad Hamish only has 31,000.. youngster...  Grin

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Besides the "normal" stuff (tires, pads, battery etc), and taking into account that I don't always stay on paved roads.

Drive Belt
diaphragm on carb slider had small cracks
fork seals
cam chain (stretched, not broken).
 On the nitrided one now.
Need to look if it's ready for the 2nd hole on the Verslavy yet
mufflers (4 or 5) - good thing they are free
front engine mount bolt (twice)
gas cap gasket
brake rotor
front wheel bearings
rear brake cable and housing.
front foot pegs

unpaved related for sure  Embarrassed :
broken spokes on rear rim
rear fender
gas tank rear mount (fixed with epoxy putty)
headlight bucket cracked (fixed multiple times w/ putty, finally replaced)
rear shock
muffler mount (welded)
3 gremlin bells (scrubbed off in the dirt somewhere..)

Can't think of anything else right now.
Always got me home, except for flat tires.
And very often found parts "on the cheap"
Sure can't complain!

Cool Beans!

Same piston, rings, cam, rockers, crank.....and from what your list shows......the cylinder head has never been taken apart.

You must be doing something right!

My bike should be hitting that milestone sometime in early 2033...
I'll be sure to post a lifesize, 3d, holograph of it, parked next to my Jetson's bubble jet, hover saucer...
Huh...

Shocked  Geeeezzzzzz  You really need to ride more (or do you have another one that you DO ride more?)
Oh.. and ALL my miles have been done on day rides in and around San Antonio.  Never an overnighter.  I keep hoping I'll be able to make the Dragon.  The planets have not aligned yet.

That is correct, and valves only adjusted when I did the cam chain.
I was going to torque the head bolts when I replaced the cam chain.  Tried to back them off first.  Would not budge with a pretty good oomph.   OK, I can take a hint.. leave 'em alone!!!  Cheesy

I still can't figure out why so many owners think these things always need the valves adjusted, mine are still in spec at 15 years. I've checked them several times over the years, they've always been fine... And I definitely do not baby the engine.

I might get around to checking the cam chain this year while the bike is apart for other issues.

Way to go! My congrats on both your ability to get that many miles out of the machinery and also your ability to avoid becoming a rather interesting hood ornament on some old lady's 1970 Buick Electra while in the process.

Good hunting
