Yup,.. I started this post, to point out a pretty good bargain on a FF helmet...
My accident, would have hurt my face pretty bad,... but, I was inside that helmet... and it really wasn't an impact to the helmet... just a glancing blow across the faceshield...
This didn't hurt the "helmet" portion at all... just the faceshield and lower air vent... (if it had been my tender flesh, I'm sure there would have been stitches, and scarring, and maybe some reduction in noseical dimension )... but, it was purely a slide, contacting the shield...
...(something of a facial surf)...
...
Helmet fully in tact...
The real impact was to my left side, mostly shoulder, ribs, and hip... then I was thrown a bit, and slid, with the facial contact...
If I weren't sure, I'd have replaced it... but it was only a few weeks old, and it got a new shield, and a tiiny touch-up paint (that made fangs), on the lower air vent... I love the fangs, and they just came up accidentally from the touch-up...
... but,.. it is getting "long in the tooth" at this point...
Helmet is about 3 years old now...
I'll be on the hunt... soon...
My face is nothing to brag about,.. but, it could be worse...
I'll protect what I've got...
The lesson is... skin can't take even the gentlest contact with rolling pavement... that stuff just don't budge...
...even a pie plate, between your face and the asphalt would make a huge difference in the rest of your life...if you are going to slide a few feet...
You just can't be that fast with a pie plate...
...
The brain bucket, just didn't enter the equation in this crash...
...Non FF fans...
If you could imagine,.. just for second,... even just running as fast as you can... then diving down, and using your face as a brake on the asphalt,...
You're seeing the lucky side of a bike wreck...
It happens very, very fast... (replays are in slow-mo, and they go on for weeks)...
I'm glad I had my face covered...
