New S40 owner... many questions
04/22/13 at 12:49:48

I purchased a 2009 S40 last week and love it. I HAD been a sportbike rider for 20ish years, but due to having both hips replaced, I can't be in that position anymore. I never thought I would ride a cruiser, but man, I wish I had switched a long time ago. Way more cofortable on the S40 than any sportbike I had owned.

Anyway, here is the first of what I am sure will be many questions.
I bought some aftermarket saddlebags, which have been a nightmare since they showed up. First, the "universal" turn signal relocation kit isn't. Under the seat, where the yoke of the bags is supposed to lay across is the voltage regulator. Is it OK to have this material over the regulator and put the seat back on?

Thanks for any help, looking forward to talking to other owners with much more experience than I with this.

I cut a notch in the saddle bag strap to go around the voltage regulator, but it probably isn't necessary to do so.

I've had my saddle bags overtop of the regulator for a year now with no ill effects.

I don't believe it is necessary to either.
The fender does help with heat dissapation.
But in rare cases, when there's an issue with the charging system, the regulator can get hot.  If your bat needs water alot, I'd check into it.

@ apache- I like your turn signal bracket. How long did you make the piece?
There seems to be an overwhelming amount of chrome-colored paper coated ABS turn signals but not a bunch that are made of metal unless you go LED.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I bought a foot of 7/8" OD {A} x 0.635" ID {B} x .120" Wall {C} Tube 6061-T6 Aluminum. I cut it to 5 & 1/4 length.
