Have a Ryca Cafe, buildt from a 1997. The standard Savage petcock is installed in the convenional manner under the tank. I did some engine work this winter, and on reinstalling the tank then petcock (the petcock has to come off to remove the tank for clearance) I found the petcock leaking, apparently down the forward mounting screw. I immediately thought that is was just a tired oval o-ring (mine was original), and have ordered a new one. But on examining the petcock assembly, I note that the two mounting screws are located inside of the oval o-ring rather than outside it, so I wonder if the screws need to be gasoline impermeable as well. Looking at my two mounting screws one has a bit of stripped threads mid-way up the shaft. I can easly clean up these threads, but if the screws need to be part of the seal to prevent leakage, maybe it is better to replace the screws too? Or apply some type of sealant? Anyone had issues in this area? Your imput appreciated.
