This would be interesting to see if you can get off...
I had a cop chase me down on a road near my work...I was doing 55 (the speed limit)...he came pulling up next to me and did the two fingers to his eyes thing (I'm watching you).
At the light he rolled down his window and said "YOU NEED TO SLOW DOWN!"
I said "my speedo says I was doing 55"...he said "It's WRONG!"
I didn't argue but I think it was cuz I went from 0 to 55 pretty quick from the light...
He was flooring it to catch up to me...LOL...that's probably how your cop came up with 120mph...he was trying to catch up...

Why would the revenue collector go for kmph in the USA? To get some more revenue. He might have been hung over, perhaps his wife/lover/partner had a headache. Possibly it was his bad hair day. Is he jealous of motorcyclists?

Well I'd say you have a good defense at least........I'm not sure there are more then a handful of heavily modified LS650's that anyone would even attempt to do 120 on
Assuming a Savage has a Cd of around 1.0,.. it would take around 80 hp at the rear wheel to get to that speed. Not only that, the thing would need another gear, or a smaller rear sprocket or a larger front sprocket. I'll bet there aren't ANY Savages with more than double the stock hp,... AND,... you'd have to machine new sprockets out of billet to get that gearing. One of those sprockets would cost more than an entire Savage.
It's an interesting thought, though,..

Maybe take off the belt, pump up the tires really hard, and go down a ski jump.

Jet Assist Take Off... strap a rocket to it... it might make 120. They'll clear 100 if you put them on a serious weight and wind resistance diet. And fine tune the snot out of them.
Just be ready to fight with the bike for the rest of the time you own it... it really does some damage to the engine.
