How long to complete oil plug leak?
04/20/13 at 14:50:25

I have very little time and no torque wrenches but I am mechanically inclined.  Has anyone completed this task in under 2.5 hours without a torque wrench?  Or should I negotiate a rate and final bill with my local Suzuki dealer?

You will not do it the first time in under 2.5 hours.......maybe the 3rd time.  It can be done without a torque wrench, but it would be a shame to have it that far apart and not retourqe the head.

I've done this job a few times and, quite frankly, if it took me less than four hours that would mean that I didn't really do it right....

Most of the time is spent cleaning up the sealant surfaces on the top of the head and the bottom of the head cover.  You want to do a good job there to prevent nuisance oil leaks down the road....BTDT!

Good luck!

Once again,.. this is one of those jobs where, getting to the job, is the job...
Replacing the plug takes 1 minute...
Getting there, and getting back,... will take you a couple of hours each way...

Be thankful you have a Savage...
...it could be a three day trip... Huh...

i did mine for the first time last week, i did it all toll in about 3 and a half hours... the main thing is to keep al your bolts that you remove in a box with a copy of the head taped to it...that was a "HUGE" help... i didn't use a torque wrench, but i am planing on going back and checking tightness of bots again soon.... good luck & safe riding!!!

I need to do this to my bike soon.  I just need to find some time when I have a day to get it done.  Not looking forward to pulling it all apart.

I like your hard tail.  The Wrenches look way cool.  How about some more pics.
