The Harley dealership here doesn't list the prices, you have to call and I didn't but the last time I went in there, 6 months ago, I recall the 883 being $9,900...I must have been looking at 1200s

Depends on where you live too, I know the HD dealers on LongIsland NY marked up $1k at least on all bikes with no haggle room for the regular joe and Manhattan was higher, due to physical location you would have to travel a good distance to get to another dealer off LI and past Manhattan.  Unless things have changed there in the past few years, which I doubt LOL.

Yeah,yeah,yeah.....it's still a V-twin Hurley knock-off........nothing new there....same old s&%t.

I'm holding out Roll Eyes for a production 750-900 cc thumper......something really different Grin ! That would get me excited enough to throw down some long green!

HD knock off in the bodywork department, Vincent engine knock off. Yamaha (like the latest Indian engine from Polaris) uses an offset rear cylinder, just like Vincent did on the infamous Black Shadow. The earliest incarnation by Yamaha even used a Vincent clone swingarm and shock layout...

A truer HD knock off would be the Kawasaki Vulcan V-twin... oh, wait, Kawasaki designed the Evo... look it up, it's true. HD came crying to Japan in the early 80s, Kawi stepped up and helped the brand survive. The design gurus at Kawasaki actually liked and respected the HD as a classic platform and couldn't stomach the thought of it going out of business. Harley paid off the debt for the Evo in 1994. Imagine where Harleys would be today if Kawasaki hadn't had to stick with pushrods and a separate transmission while modernizing the old nosecone Shovelhead...

A super sized HD knock off would be the Yamaha Road Star engine. Beefed up Shovelhead with pushrods sharing a common cover.

Could you post a link to your claim.

They started r&d on the EVO in 77...solid in the AMF years...AMF just supplied the money....some say Porsche had a hand in the engineering. First year Evo's still had Shovel cases...were really only different from the jugs up...All the changes were to correct durability problems that cropped up with the Shovel when they punched it out to 80 ci.

Donnie Petersen, Donny's Unauthorized Technical Guide to Harley Davidson, 1936 to Present: Volume III: The Evolution, 1984-2000 (NY: iUniverse Inc, 2010).

It's all about the Evo.

- Page 13: "AMF instituted the beginning if the Evolution engine in 1977, over 3 years before the buy-out by H-D management."
- Page 19: "The Evo had been in a 7 year design process before it's consumer introduction in 1984."

It's all in old Super Cycle, Iron Horse and similar print magazines.

I gave up on HD after my 93 Wide Glide ate 4 engines and 6 transmissions in 6 months. When the company was experimenting with new crank support bearings. At least they had the sense by 95 to go back to the ones that worked.

I still like/prefer Harley Davidsons, just don't want another one made after 1964. Still looking for a VL or UL worth the time and effort to resto-mod.

I had a 1957 Pan bar hopper project before we moved back to TN in early 2011. Gave it back to the friend who had given me the bike, couldn't bring everything and since it was the roughest of the bikes at the time...

Only pic I have of the Panhead project...

So it was printed in magazines, but never in any HD historical publications......by anyone......?

Certainly I've never seen anything on it.
A friend works at Harley.....I'll inquire.
The Porsche reference is on the Vrod engine, & yes, they designed it.

I don't put a lot of faith in after market custom motorcycle magazines. I could not find any reference on the net or in any reputable publications.
