Bike locked up on me on the freeway
04/16/13 at 14:26:04

I was cruising down the 405 at around 60 miles an hour when all of a sudden my bike starts braking for me I was on the throttle not on brakes I have no idea how it happened. The bike still starts up and I rode it just a little to see if it would roll. If anyone has any idea what locked up on me I would appreciate the input

sounds like the piston seized.
got oil?

wait for it to cool off, gently ride home or get it towed.

Get the wheels up off the ground, and see if they spin freely...
Could be engine,.. could be wheel bearings, brakes, rock in the belt...

I had a turn signal fall off, and wedge between the rear tire and the swingarm... I felt the power drop. and the bike slowing,... I saw a trail of smoke behind me 1/4 mile long, and I thought the engine seized...
It was burning sidewall rubber against the turn signal... Huh...

Yeah the bike is still running just fine I haven't gone farther then 1\4 of a mile cus I was knocked off my bike going 60 and the pipe cought fire but everything still seems to be working just fine don't see any belt damage so I'm thinking rear brake just locked up somehow. Thanks for your input though I appreciate it

If you don't see any obvious reason for the brake/rear wheel to lock up, take it to a reputable Suzi dealer...you will not get a lot of second chances at 60mph and funerals cost more than a whole new bike so please spend your money wisely. Shocked

I would lean towards rear brake. If you were "knocked off", I'll assume you mean hit, or fell.....if it was on the exhaust side, I'd guess the exhaust jammed against the cable/rod, & the rear brake is stuck in engaged.

Anything Jaso MA rated with at least 1200 ppm of ZDDP

Best bang for the buck that meets this and is available just about anywhere is the Rotella 15w40 dino oil in the gallon size white jugs or if you prefer full syn Rotella T6 5w40.  Both of those are available just about anywhere and are very low in cost and meet the needs of our flat tappet style engines and are wet clutch approved as well as Jaso MA rated.  Plus since you change your oil every 3K miles it just doesn't make since to use $15 per qt oil on the top brand name full syn since our engines don't have the sump capacity nor the filtering capacity to fully utilize the extended drain intervals that you would normally use with such an oil like that.

Tell your "Buddy" to follow at a safe distance..

Would be a good time to change oil. Drain into something clean & inspect the oil for aluminum bits & ferrous bits, IOW, drag a magnet thru it & shine a lite at it, maybe even pour it thru a paint filter, or Tee shirt. Mite wanna autopsy the oil filter, see whats in there.

yeah, and offset.  I came up on one idiot on the superslab, he was on the left so aligned on the right.  He juked to the right so re-aligned on the left.  Just as I did he jambed on the brakes and shot straight back.  dam squids.

Something I just learned....  If the rear hub becomes overly worn, (probably from from over-adjusting the brake, or wearing it down to bare metal),...  the brake arm can overcam and lock up the rear...

Liam,... your rear hub isn't heat tarnished to bronze,.. is it?...
(That will mean, the hub has seen extreme heat from locking up)...
