I have a few questions. 1. Do I have to empty the fuel tank or can I shut off the Raptor petcock and bleed out whats in the line? 2. What are the dimensions of the spacer? 3. Stock spacer is .1"... #4 nylon washer from Ace hardware is .06"... perfect... The carb has o-ring seals... reusable... no gaskets needed...

The white spacer on my 2011 S40 measures .115 thick and .270 dia. The hole is around .116.

The #4 nylon washers from Ace are from .065 to .070. I measured several of them with my dial calipers. They have some brass #4 washers that measure .033.

I bought a #4 nylon bushing and made my own. I raised my needle up .030. It seems to be working fine. Mine was not that lean in mid range. The needle only comes into play between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle.

I only went up one step to a 147.5 main jet. I tried to keep the stock pilot jet but couldn't. It took the bike forever to warm up and had a surge at 30 mph just loafing with the throttle just barely cranked. I tried turning the screw out to three turns and it didn't help so I went up one size to a 55 pilot jet. The screw is set at 1 & 3/4 turns and the bike runs really great. I get a good roll on at 30 mph with no hesitation and the top end is good. I get 60 mpg with this set up. I am around 500 feet elevation.

I don't belong to the school of thought that you raise the needle a bunch to conpensate for a too lean pilot. It may work but it will make the mid range too rich on ocassion. Just my opinion.

Coaxial, hope it's cool if I piggyback on your question. I have my carb apart now and I am changing to a 55 pilot and 150 main per another post I read. I am running the BCB drag pipe and another guy said this worked good for him. My question is, do I need to remove the float ? I can get to the jets without removing it, it looks like and everything inside my carb seems really clean. 2nd question, how do I know how tight or loose to set the jets ? And I am also going to the #4 washer idea, using 3 of them.

You do not have to remove the floats unless you want to check the float needle but you might want to check the float level. It is..

27.95 + or - 1 mm

(1.10 + or - 0.04 in)

Just snug the jets down. They are brass so you dont need to over tighten them. I believe this information is in the technical documents under table of contents. There is a lot of info there.

When I was about to get to the Pilot Jet it seems like it was stripped. Any ideas on how to get the pilot jet out? Drill it out i suppose?

If so you may be able to use a very small easy out in the center of the jet and get it out. I have never had this happen. Some one here may have prior experience with this.

Reply #13 - 04/11/13 at 10:17:30 I'm with Apache,... try anything and everything, before trying to drill it out... ...as a last ditch,.. sharpen a small, narrow, cheapie, flat blade screwdriver to a sharp point at the tip,... then gently tap it into the jet, and see if it will draw it out... ...

Reply #14 - 04/11/13 at 11:04:52 I bought this bike used and I assume someone stripped it. I did not strip this =( I have to drill out the TEV screws too as they are stripped by previous folks. I'll try WD40 and a some sort of rubber to grip it out.
