Can't say if it's been worth it or not, but once when in a bike parts yard I picked up a used belt for about $20.00. They had a Sav disassembled and piled in a wooden crate. Seemed like cheap piece of mind for when I'm on a long down south back roads trip. If something happened I wouldn't have to wait in Valdosta or somewhere while Suzuki tries to find me to send one out. But then I also have a spare head gasket and the stronger cam chain, which I've not installed yet.

And to go off topic - Why can't they just make a a tubeless tire like they tubes tubes? Probably be harder to mount, but once on it could be plugged and everything.

I think hes asking "Why dont they make a tire to go on a spoked rim that doesnt require an inner tube? Why cant they build a tire that has a piece of rubber, as part of the tire, that seals between the beads, the part that lays in the rim.. ? &, Ive never even dreamed of that,, & Dang if that isnt a good question!

Honda 450 Rebels were also spoke wheels with tubeless tires. It isn't hard to do, just expensive. So the cheaper bikes are still tube type tires.

Exactly what I meant on the tubeless tire idea. Just make a thick rubber tube with tread, cords, a bead AND then make it good for 5-8k miles. Really shouldn't be too hard a task.

But as I've thought on it a bit more it seems like it might not be the strongest of designs after all. Tubes have seams. This doesn't affect the ability of the tube hanging together because it has the tire casing to hold it in and keep the air pressure from blowing the seam out. Not sure how that could be done in a tire format that would be strong enough to handle the considerable stresses of highway travels.

Oh well, I'm sure if it could be done it would have been. Now on to my next project, solid rubber tires. Bet nobody ever though of those . . . wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
