I'm in the process of switching to cast '85 gs550 wheels.  Should be done within the week hopefully and I will be posting my experience. I decided to wait until it was done and post in one stream instead of a week in between each post. The whale thread has good info but no pics(at least I can't see them when I read it)  from my research if you want a 17 out back with minimal mods you will need to source a gs450. they commonly came with a 17x2.15 in the back and a 19x1.85 in the front if I remember correctly. The 550 wheels i have are a 19x2.15 front and 16x2.75 rear.  I have mocked everything up twice now once to get a general idea of the spacing and once with the painted wheels and rotor to finalize spacing, and I found both wheels fit easily with minimal spacing issues.  Good luck, for the whale post you can just google Suzuki savage whale and it will bring you to it.
