Question:
Dino, Synthetic, or Blend?
I'm a regular kinda guy. Dino oil for me.
I prefer man made stuff. Synthetic all the way.
I like a little of each. Gimme a blend any day.

What is a regular oil change? Does once a year count if you put on 10K miles per year?
Do you have an owners manual?
http://www.savageriders.com/verslagen/transfer/2002_LS650P_Owners_Manual.pdf
Ever read it?
1st oil change: 600 miles or 2 months.
2nd oil change: 4,000 miles or 12 months
3rd oil change: 7,500 miles or 24 months
4th oil change: 11,000 miles or 36 months
5th oil change: 15,000 miles or 48 months.
You are supposed to change whenever your reach the mileage or the age. It looks like Suzuki suggests once a year or 4,000 miles once you get past the break in period.
I probaby change much soooer than they recommed.

If your clutch gets grabby or slipping, or you start missing shifts, change your oil. That's the frequency for your particular bike. No two will be the same.
If your petcock dumps a ton of raw fuel into the crankcase because your float needle is also a p.o.s., change your oil.
The 1998 book (and the books for my old 99 and 05 VN800s) also says somewhere in it that the bike's service life is 5 years or 15K miles...
Hmm, mine is 3 times that old and hasn't had a terminal failure yet (just electrical issues).
Sure wish we had access to the threads on the old forum, we proved all kinds of errors in the owner's book that ships with the bikes.

My bike starts using oil before I get to the 3,000 mile mark. I dont worry about time or miles, I just watch the oil level. When I see it "asking" for oil more often, I change it,.
