Highway bar?
03/20/13 at 10:57:15

I've been looking for a highway bar for the wifes 2002 LS650 and cannot find one. I used the search here and come up blank using "highway bar" and "crash bar". I've seen a small version of crash bar for a C40, but it has no mount to hold it on the top and looks kinda flimsy. The wifes 250 Rebel has one, but if I grind out the top mount to fit, it will be kinda thin, as the honda's frame tube is at least 1/4 to 3/8 smaller, so if I grind the "u" clamp out it will make it thinner but still might work.
I'd appreciate any and all comments.....

Old, they are technically called engine guards, but they are pretty small and I'm not sure how much guarding they would do.  As far as putting highway pegs on them, mine is useless.  They exist, and sometimes you can find folks on here selling them, parting out a bike or whatever, maybe ebay or some other such site.  A few have done their own thing.

Yeah, thats the one I mentioned, flimsy and only for 2005 and up. I'm just wanting one to keep the bike from falling on the wifes leg if she drops it on its side.
Would that one fit a 2002?

The bikes are all basically the same, so it should fit all years.  But that thing is not very big, hate for my leg to be between the bike and the ground with that thing. Undecided

I have one on my bike, and I don't know how much it would help to keep the bike off her leg...here's a pic from the front of my bike and you can barely see that guard with how much it does not go out to the sides...hope this helps you.

Thanks for the pic, yeah i'm thinking i'll try to make the honda one fit or mod one from a different bike. Lotsa charity runs down here and the thunder beach run is coming up too so i'll be able to see hundreds of bikes to get an idea.

I saw a savage with a good sized one fitted on the frame- not the one in the link. I bet you could fine something that would work.

There is one made or called Wingerline? that sticks out enough to actually be effective at protecting the bike. The Suzuki one is worthless for anything.

Please excuse if I'm not making total sense today. Woke up with terrible hip pain & daughter gave me some meds to help until I can see Doc. Shocked Cool Huh

It is not hard to modify one for a Big Twin HD to work on a Savage. Knuckle or Pan eras. Drill the top mount for new center bolts, slightly longer lower front engine mount bolt to fit the bar's tabs behind the lower controls or on spacer brackets. Grade 5 or grade 8 equivalent all thread works fine.

Have helped a couple people do the bar install, have not done it to mine, my floorboards are in the way.
