Front fender lenght question

I searched and read 6.3 kabillion posts here but can't find an answer to my question. I ran without my front fender for a while. The only issue I had was in wet weather I would ride into a front rooster tail. My question is does that rooster tail come from the front or rear of the fender? How short can make the fender on the front and rear to avoid this? I am not worried about crap flying on the motor or frame or rocks/sand flying, just the water in my face.

I disagree Bot. My face stays dry with my fender on. My face getting wet is the only issue I am concerned with. And the foot longer, would that be in the front or the rear to stop the water rooster tail?

I am sorry if I sound stoopid, but that means the rear blocks the water, correct? That means I should be able to shorten the front without an issue. That would also explain why people tie bandanas to the forks just above the tire to stop the rain. Some days my common sense goes AWOL.

Taske it off
Strap cardboard from the forks down to the back, dummy up some suports, coat hangers, duct tape, etc. Water down a section of road..

Have you really never watched that show? Ohh those lovely Brits & their tests of all things automotive.. whats its name Top Gear innit?

Anyway, you can decide exactly how long it needs to be, fore & aft & have a bit of fun & probably appear daft, ehh, but why worry "About Them" & what they mite think, ehh?

Any body who rides a bike knows which tire throws water in your face.
The back tire puts a stripe up your back, and front gets you all wet.

Here's a test for you...
jack the front up, jack stands under each foot peg works great.
use a drill and buffing wheel to spin the front tire.
use a hose to wet the bottom of the tire.

Now you can rig up a piece of cardboard safely to eliminate the spray in your face.

The other water comes from the rear of the tire. Trim the front, add the cut off section to the rear of the fender. The stock unit needs to be about 14" longer in the rear to be truly effective anyway.
