Tool Box Cover Trim Wear
03/16/13 at 21:01:49
While in the process of pulling my old battery, I noticed that the trim that covers the inboard mating surface of the chrome tool box cover was wearing a bit at the top:
Now, this stuff is cheap to replace, but I'm too lazy to mess with it that much. Besides, said trim looked good everywhere else. So, I applied some of my favorite stuff, UHMW polyethylene tape. This variant of same was 10 mils thick with extra-strong adhesive:
End of problem!
BTW, the battery
barely
failed the load test, but a fail is a fail. I couldn't complain, as said battery had been in there a month over nine years!

When mine went,... I used some self adhesive door guard trim... 39 cents a foot...
It was a bit stiff, and makes a snug fit... but, it's works itself in...
The best tool,.. is the nearest one that works...

Gorilla tape seems to be a pretty good replacement for the original toolbox trim.

While I was at it, I applied some of the magic tape to the area under the seat, where I saw some paint being rubbed:
In the above photo, forward is to the left. If you look closely near the left edge of said photo, you can see some of the tape there, too.
The duct tape you see in the photo was applied long ago....before I had heard of the UHMW tape.
