cam chain tensioner mod

I'm thinking on doing the cam chain tensioner mod on my 95 savage with 14,000 miles on her. I measured the tensioner that is in there and its about 20cm. The question I have is what is the second whole for on Verslagen mod for?

For when you eventually put on a new cam chain and need the original hole position.

Or...you change it out before you're close to losing the plunger (my bro's bike) and when it starts rattling you move it to the second hole...

The "second" hole is the first hole.
