Around the first of the year, my wife announced she had decided she wanted to learn to ride so she could get her m/c license by her birthday, which is the 25th of this month. To that end I purchased several dvds from Ride Like A Pro, because I learned years ago it's easier for her to believe she's doing it right when she hears it from someone other than me. The dvds have been very helpful & I would recommend them to anyone trying to teach someone to ride.
This weekend, she goes to take the MSF course. 2 days with 6 hours of classroom & 10 hours on the riding course. After the info & training she has received already, I anticipate she will have no problems passing the course.
BTW, 18 months ago she had both knees replaced! The operation has obviously proven to be a great success Cool

I think I must be married to her twin sister. Cool

Pass on my support. If she is already up on the 650, the only thing she will need to be aware of at the MSF is to give those much bent 125's and 250's more throttle than she is used to. She will do great!

Thanks for the kind words, guys. After nearly 40 years of riding behind me, going all the way back to my RD350 days, she surprised me with this one. She decided to do this now because she thought her DL was expiring this year, & since she would be getting a new one she wanted to get the m/c endorsement. After starting to ride, she looked & her DL doesn't expire until next year! She decided to do this now anyway.

I've already warned her that the bikes they use are 125s & she will have to use more throttle. Also that it probably won't be adjusted to fit her, either. I don't think she will have any trouble. The 650 is just so easy with all that torque...

Funny thing about the RLAP dvds....Most of the stuff on there I used to do with my friends as a kid just for fun. We would use Tonka trucks as our 'cones' & practice precision riding.
I found it hard to teach because to me riding is like breathing - I don't even think about 'how' I do things - I had to stop & break things down in my head in order to explain things to her. I think I could do much better now.

One big plus from this..... She told me the other day she is more comfortable as a passenger now, especially in high winds, because she understands what is going on with the bike. After all these years, riding with me through my wild days, I never knew she wasn't totally comfortable. She's been a great passenger & will continue to be on trips, but it will be fun to ride with her around town.

Wonder how she'll feel about pulling the trailer?? I might better give her some time before I approach her with that.. Cool

My state allows you to use any bike as long as it's registered, insured and street legal for our MSF course. So she can use what she's use to, have you called to ask? Our courses used Rebel 250s and Nighthawk 250's for the taller riders.

When I took my course I had only been a passenger many years ago, once or twice. I didn't even know how to start the bike and had almost no experience driving a manual transmission car.

Also I was the only other female, that was riding during a 5 hour class in heavy rain. We were almost done with the class of the day and the other female ended up crashing behind me & never got back up. The ambulance escorted her out & she ended up breaking her femur.

Needless to say, I went back the next day and passed. So if I can do it, she can too. I had no help other than the class
