No problems until he raked it off on a parking lot speed bump. Luckily, he figured out what happened and didn't drive off. I think if your pan plug is horizontal or tucked up out of the way, it wouldn't be a problem.

I had one on my 1996 Ford Ranger. Worked great and I loved it. Never had any issue. The lever is kept in check by a goodly powerful spring. Its not turning by accident. I sold the Ranger and never saw the device offered for sale again.

Now the Savage had the oil drain right at the bottom ... so it might would worry me a good bit more than the one on a truck.

You might have a hard getting it in though, depends on thread length. And I'd want to align the lever so it wasn't hanging down, yet accessable to operation.
