How much slop in the engine mounts? (Read 87 times)

Reply #2 - 02/25/13 at 09:10:02 You might get a little bit of movement from the mount at the top of the engine and the battery box mounts - as they have bolts on both sides of the mounts. You will get almost no movement from the two long bolts at the front of the engine and the one at the bottom rear of the engine.

+1, my motor is sitting in my frame with just the long bolts finger tight with no top or rear mount installed yet. There doesn't seem to be any fore and aft play.

The back tire is rubbing on the inside front of the swingarm, even though I sent the swingarm to RYCA and paid a lot to have it cut to make room for the tire. Later I cut it some more -- See reply 237 in the Double RYCA build thread. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1304722902/237

I can't move the axle back any further because the belt will be too tight at full compression of the rear shocks.

There are not any smaller pulleys available, nor are there any belts that would have an additional tooth or two to increase the length of the belt.

I was hoping there was some mass-production slop in the engine mounting so I could move the whole thing back a little. I think getting just 1/16" of additional clearance would do the trick.

I don't want to have to take the swingarm out again, and whack away at it to get more clearance, and then do more welding and painting. That kind of project would take me a whole day.

The kawasaki belt is an 1" longer, but we only have 5/8" adjustment.
If you use the oversized kawa front pulley might work out.

Or you might have to use a smaller aspect ratio tire.

I have 12" shocks,.. and I like to keep my belt pretty loose with them...

The whole reason I built this bike was to have something that would use a 4.00-18 Avon Speedmaster!!
