Not me personally, unless you count the occasional street race, but my BIL raced sprint go-karts (int'l grand champ 4 yrs) flat track, moto-cross, and low level stock cars. My wife's cousin is Billy the Kydd, (not to be confused with Bill Stepp), who ran A altered in a car called Will's Fargo. He was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 1997.http://cmhf.ca/billy-kydd/

Notes: Car won 80% of races it ran in. Original motors were 413 Dodge, 426 Dodge and a 482 Dodge, all with direct drive. Then the Hemi with a Torqueflite tranny. First aspirated altered in the eights, at Saginaw points meet. Also held A/C record and B/A record. With wedge, MPH record at 152.28. First Hemi record at Saginaw at 9.05, 157. | Went with this car for over ten years. First aspirated car in the eights. A second car with independent suspension was built after Bill spent two years in super stock. Altered (first) won 80% of the races it competed in. Two and a half by three eighth wall tubing frame with loop roll bar and two supports in front. Logghe suicide straight tube font axle. Nine inch Ford with Big Bill built shortened axles. Seat hung from tabs on the roll bar. First engine was a 413 wedge dodge. Will's Fargo, right? Second engine, 426 wedge. Third engine, 482 wedge (1/2 inch stroker). All three used direct drive. Car ran 9.72 with half arm and held MPH record at 152.28. With Hemi and Torqueflite the car set the record at 9.05 @ 157.65. Upset a lot of people! Reset same year, I think 1968 at Indianapolis at 9.04. Tried the new independent suspension car built with the help of a super Ford engineer. We were too far behind the curve to get back in the game, but it did win class at Indianapolis the very last time they had it. Outstanding part of my life with Bill Sr. and Jr., Bud Polhill, Harold Pim, Glen Brown and several others who were involved with the car(s). Lots of stories from this car! - Dave Robertson

Back in the early '70's I competed in TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) Road Rallies, amatuer, seat of pants.  First with my '67 Spitfire, later with my '72 Pinto.  My navigator, Dennis Evans, got us lost and got me my only trophy.  A TSD-RR is not a race, you needed to keep on route and on time, lost time if you were slow or fast.

Late '70's I was in the checkpoint for a couple of SCORE races, a Parker 400 and one in Mexico.  While I wasn't a racer, I did run on the track  on my DT175 Enduro, during the race, and no one passed me.  By that time the only racers left was Class 11 -- Stock V.W..

Good stuff, all!

Riding on the street, or trail.....while full of it's own pleasures & stories, can never rival that of bangin' bars on the race track. (Ok, so there might be a couple late night stories from the race weekends, too....but those range from rated R on up! Lol)

Demolition derby in college. The GOOD kind... motorcycles. Won 3 in a row with a beat to pieces GL1000.

Racing racing? Dabbled in dirt track (motorcycle), crewed a few amateur drag racing teams, managed to get myself a lifetime track ban for far exceeding the safety capabilities of my run what ya brung high school drags car... Roll Eyes Apparently, firewalls are required (and so are parachutes at those speeds)...  Huh  We cut up an early "jelly bean" Civic coupe and made it rwd, with a big block... and no cage. Friend's family owned a junkyard...

I fancy the quarter mile drags.
I run DSMs which constitute Mitsubishi Eclipses, Eagle Talons, Plymouth Lasers, and sometimes, depending on whom you ask, the Galant VR-4.
1.7 E/t and 14.3 on a stock setup. I haven't been back in a while though.

I dabbled in 1/4 mile dirt track stockers way back in the 70's. We'd take a car from the junkyard, knock out all the glass, weld up and paint some exhaust tubing(used of course Wink ) for roll cages and tune up an old straight six Chevy motor. No money to speak of,what with the $125 claims rule, but we sure tore up the track!

Later,in my 40's, I had a chance to run go-carts in Southern Indiana. We ran the Champ Cart(or cage cart) class. Full cage carts that looked like the World of Outlaws cars without the wings. 10hp Tecumseh engines on pure alky, pushing 65hp on the dyno! We ran some crazy speeds,100+ on 1/2 mile dirt ovals, with a 440 pound minimum weight sitting 2" off the ground! Some of the guys reached 120mph on the straights! Again,no real money for prizes but one Hell of a blast Grin

I did some SCCA club and regional racing back in the 1960s.  First in a Sunbeam Alpine, then in its big brother, the Sunbeam Tiger.
Never raced a motorcycle.
