There are far too many of these threads. No two bikes will ever run the same no matter if they're all using the "same" sized whatever.

It's time you guys did some reasearch on something called "Manufacturing Tolerances." It's impossible to make every part exactly the same as the last part and the amount of time it takes to try is absolutely pointless in something with as many variables as an engine and carburetor.

If your bike isn't running the way you'd like even though the guy next to you with the "exact" same bike with the "exact" same parts runs mint - adjust or change something. There are no perfect answers and the only perfect setup is one that makes your bike run the way you want it to.

I have my bike running really well with a 150 main, 50 pilot and 2 washers on the needle.  I tried a 52.5 pilot and 3 washers - but I had an uneven lean condition just off idle when riding - and the bike would run with just a tiny bit of hesitation when you rolled on the throttle slowly.   When I dropped to a 50 pilot and removed one washer from the needle....it ran great.

It installed an oxygen sensor and it took me about 5 trials to get the jetting just right for my bike.  Changing the washers on the slide is the hardest as it requires me to remove the battery, battery box, seat and tank to ge the carb out.  I have installed allen head screws on the float bowl and I can change the main and pilot jets with the carb in place, and I certainly recommend that change.

I think that's a wise choice...

My thinking is,... I don't want a lean condition, when the engine is working it's hardest... Full throttle, or hard acceleration...  The larger main, and smaller spacer will help with that...
At times when the engine is putting along, cool and easy,.. I want to be lean as I can be, without causing surging, to get maximum MPG's...  and this is where I spend most of my time... keeping the pilot as small as will allow good running, will deliver best mpg at that mellow putt,.. say 35mph to 60 cruising... 1/4 to 1/2 throttle range... you're running mostly on the pilot with a little from the needle jet

420 foot elevation. 155 main, 55 pilot, airscrew out 2.5, never messed with the slide parts. Smokes like a 1970s semi until it is fully warmed up, but, no choke required...

15" apes and too fat of jets dropped it to 36mpg... I need to lean mine back out. Stone stock except for airbox door pulled, glasspack and long tail pipe it got well into the mid/upper 70s mpg commuting (8 miles one way, 35-45 mph roads). Memphis to the L'il Sturgis (MS) rally it turned in a best of 85 mpg, but the engine was some kind of hot...
