Nothing wrong with going back to stock, not all of them have to be cut up and turned into something else. They are basically decent little bikes either way. You had enough remaining to do a resto instead of modifying it, I didn't after my stepson's wreck. So mine is now a custom.
Same with my 1963 Honda, too far gone to restore. My friend Doug thinks it is absolutely horrible that I'm building a custom out of a low production (serial number codes out as 1963 bike number 2, but I think it is really bike number 3002) 50 year old Honda. Full 100% resto books out at $3800 dollars, the missing parts are more than that (seat, both fenders and fender cages, air box, one side panel, horn, tool box lid, chain guard, correct wheels, correct handlebar... comes to about 6 grand in parts). Cash outlay for parts how I'm building it? Less than a grand, including the bike (got paid $20 to come pick it up).
Your wife should really like the bike.
