You could try it when the motor is hot The case may expand more than the plug Worth a try rather than damaging the slot,

Put a crescent wrench on the file and hold the file into the slot and tap on the wrench

When you put it back on. Finger tight only, it wont come loose. Mine has been running like that for years, never a problem.

I just discovered that an old 4 inch continuous edge sawblade (like for a grinder) has just the right radius for it! Easy peasy.
