Took a new route....
01/21/13 at 22:29:13

Such a nice day,... riding along with my buddy George, in a Honda Accord...
I said, "We should be ridin",...
...so we did...
Zip back home and get the bikes...

I went past the usual coffee stop,.. and headed on a loop I'd never taken before...
About 10 miles past our usual stop,.. we pass by a fellow biker, broke down, but there's a tow truck there, so we ride on,... 5 more miles and there's another rider down...
We didn't have the right wrench for her axle nut, so we couldn't fix her jumped chain,.. but, we did have a cell (she didn't), and called her hubby, just a few miles away, with a truck and tools...
After the call,.. I look up,.. and about 100 yards back, is the guy that was broke with the tow truck...
So we swing around to him...
He had just has his Aprillia worked on, and they screwed up... a fuse blew... (the tow driver, couldn't tow a bike, but offered to throw a chain across the tank, and tow him home)... (Eeek!)... he refused...
... but he got a cheapy, fuse from the driver, and thought he was set... It blew after just a few miles, and he got stranded again...
We pulled the seat and tank,.. and found a harness connecter pinched in the wrong place... moved it,... and put a spare fuse, (that the Aprillia, apparently carries in a spare fuse block slot),.. and it fired up...
Chain lady and her hubby had stopped by with her bike fixed,.. and we said thanks, but we got it...
Followed the Aprillia for 5 miles and he waved us off...

Unplanned ride,... took a different route...
... and found two folks down, and got them back home...
Made my day...
... and MLK day,.. is the unofficial, do something for someone day... (Maybe it's official?)...
Anyway,... pay it forward...

One day,.. it'll be me... or you... Wink...

Riding is great, but unplanned stops to help others can be just as satisfying   Wink

You're a hero, twice over.

Hope you told her to get a new chain, if it jumped it was too loose.

She had just had a new rear tire put on at a shop... They adjusted it way too loose...

The Aprllia had just had work done that involved pulling the tank,... and they pinched a connector...

DIY all you can...
It may still not come out perfect,.. but you'll know what you did.  Why pay someone else to screw things up?...
Grin...

...nice, it's 4 degrees here right now with a wind-chill of 22 degrees below zero. Huh

...even too cold for snowmobiling. Tongue

Daughter and I riding along in truck and notice a fat guy walking uphill on highway with about a 12' section of a fiberglass ladder. Figuring a lift would be easier and more sanitary than CPR, we stopped. He shouted it blew out of his truck (Bungee broke). I said, "OK why don't you jump in the back?" He looked surprised and jumped in. Saw his truck about 1/4 mile up the road. It was, of course, the only safe place to park. It's what we do in the South. Of course, we are armed to the teeth.  Wink

Stopped late one night in the middle of Houston to load up a stranger's stranded bike and drive it home (along with the owner) because that is what we do here.  And it is OK that we do it armed. Smiley

For years I picked up hitch hikers. I just felt like I was supposed to. I always pulled up far enough ahead of them to have time to get my knife out & open & under my right thigh. No one ever tried to mess with me, but I Always made sure I was ready, just in case, cuz ya never know. Someone can look all meek & mild & be a wolverine/badger cross.

Ill still pick them up, occasionally. I just no longer have such a feeling of obligation.
