50mm Foot peg extension
01/20/13 at 11:28:28

Hi Everyone. I have extended my Foot Pegs out 50mm, I did this because I find myself having to hold my feet in while riding. I especially notice this with the forward controls, my feet would sit over the edge of the original foot peg length.

I also modified the brake peddle too by cutting off and welding another foot plate next to the original.

My feet now are sitting comfortably on both pegs.

I was concerned with them dragging on the ground, As you can see they can bend back to allow for this. I have test ridden and my heel touches the ground first when laying it down in the corners as it did before the extension. I don't lay it down in the corners to much anyway especially on this machine.

I also did another small mod that involved loosening the 2 bolts that hold the exhaust to the head and the bolt that holds the muffler. I then gently pulled the under bike exhaust bracket and pulled it about 50 - 100mm out to the right.Sorry cant give more details about how far to move bracket. When I did it I grabed it and with one hand on the swing arm I pulled the exhaust bracket toward me. With the exhaust still in tact and only rotating at the head, I reconnected the Muffler bolt and then tightened the 2 head bolts.

Never occurred to me, but that makes sense. Sitting astride a bike, legs are spread a bit. Farther from the seat, wider the feet,,, natcherlee!
Good job, Again, on everything,, Well thot out, well executed, but you didnt make a science project out of it, like go hunting a way to make a 1 piece brake pedal head.

Have you considered a metal tab, folded & shaped, that would mount under the head of the peg bolts to make first contact with the road? Or are you just gonna keep the pegs off the road?  FWIW, one of mine has seen enough contact that it was splitting down the length on the bottom. I wired it back together. Working fine & the wire skids nicely. Ive had it laid over hard enough I had to pull my foot back some cuz the twist on my ankle & the pinch between peg & case was hurting,, These things Will lay on over.

Why do this you may well ask. Well Firstly I wanted the rear exhaust to bend out more at the end.Secondly so I can use the center stand without removing exhaust, and to look a little better.

But the most important thing I noticed and it was only because I have a temp gauge is that it runs a lot cooler. I will provide more accurate detail but I do know for a fact that after a run and on shutdown my bike heated up to 10C less with the exhaust away from the engine. I used washers to space out the heat shield.

Yes I will put something there so it can scrape without too much damage.

Nicely done! Is that the stock exhaust pipe? Where did you get that muffler looks great...the flat black goes very well with that bright white paint.
