So you would have to pull in the clutch, the throttle would drop to idle when you reached for the shift lever, shift with your right hand, get it back on the throttle and set it to about the right rpms and let out the clutch?
Talk about a suicide shift!

Would be easier to shift with out the clutch then with out the throttle.

Back in the '70's we called those rigs "plow handle" shifters. Course they was on the left side and they worked pretty well till you had a "oh crap" stop. Then it was a Keystone cops kind of show! With no front brake, the plowhandle shifter and 6-10" over forks ya had yer work cut out fer ya son! Try that with yer new-fangled disc brakes on both ends and yer air-ride suspension

The first Harley I rode was in 1960. It was a 1952 with foot clutch and tank shift. Didn't take long to get the hang of it. It was a much better set up than this bike.

Sounds like we rode similar scooters hexnut. I spent some time on a 45" flathead like that but we changed the rocker clutch to the plowhandle with the squeeze clutch on the shift. I just never got the hang of the rocker clutch. Part of that may have been it didn't have the "overthrow" to lock it in sitting at a stop.
