How tall are you? That is a pretty small shield, so you'll likely look over it just fine, but the turbulence it throws is liable to catch you in the neck or face.

Sit on your bike, hands on the bars. Have someone hold a yard stick straight out from your nose. The measurement from bottom of yard stick to 1/4" above the headlight shell is the height range to look for. You will see over the shield, the turbulence will go over you. Try to stay within an inch to inch and a half of that measurement, you'll be able to dial in the perfect setting a lot quicker.

I am 5' 10", I have the same windshield and I love it. It works for me and enhances the look of the bike. I do not like the big windshield. But then again, I think is a matter of taste and practicallity. I included a picture of my S40 with the shield.

WD, I'm 5'6". I'll do the measurement as soon as I can get my wife out to the garage to hold the yardstick. This shield is 15" high. That's the number I'm looking for, right?

I want the wind going over my head if possible. I wear an open face helmet with a flat shield and I'd like to reduce the noise some, as well as keeping the wind blast off my chest.

Qwapy. I like the way this shield looks on your bike. I've looked at a few others that mount to the bars rather than the forks and I don't think they are as attractive. Is that a tach on your bars, or an aftermarket speedo?

5'6" it should send everything right over you. It could even be a touch tall. If you like that one it should be fine, but definitely measure to be on the safe side.

15" is the height from the headlight notch crown to the top of the shield.

I've got you by 8" and change, that shield height would send the wind into my collarbones or my chest.  Last time I ran a functional shield I had a 22" tall version. The baby bike (CL100 street scrambler) with a flat seat has a 17" and it is too short. The 1500 Drifter has a 15", but it is mounted straight up and down 1940s style. My Savage has 15" apes, no shield.

The advantage of the bar mount is you can adjust it anyway you want.
high/low, kicked up or laid down.

properly adjusted, you should be able to look over the top of the shield.

Just did the measurement. 15" from the stick to the top of the headlight. I'm going to give this one a try. I'll report back when I get it put on and have a chance to try it out.

Thanks guys.

Apparently they are designed for the bike. I've got one and am happy with it. Chrome plating isn't brilliant.

My experience:  http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/N2560?  A National cycle Street Shield.

The Suzuki screen - 15" tall to the bottom, about 13" above the headlight.
The StreetShield - 17" over the headlight.

My shield was about 4" taller than the Suzuki screen.  I am 5'8, probably no more than 2" taller in the saddle than you.

I ride a beanie if I have to, otherwise with the wind in my face.  Without the shield I need windproof goggles, with the shield I can ride with mere sunglasses, even no glasses in the city.  On tour the wind hit just about my hairline -- wind in my hair, not in my eyes.

If I have to guess, I would guess that on the Suzuzi screen you would have wind in your eyes, but not with the StreenShield.

Qwapy,
I'm probably breaking the rules here 'cause I'm changing the topic of this thread, but I'd like to know more about that tach. Where did you get it, and how is it driven ?

I, too, have the Suzuki windshield on my '09 S40. I'm happy with it, but then I've never tried anything else for comparison.

If you are planning on early Spring or Late Fall riding 40-50 degrees F you might want a windshield witch provides hand protection, like Windjammer's Enterprise.   If you are highwaying it a lot, then perhaps the Suzi smaller fairing would be the best choice.  Have fun.

Sounds like it will be just about right. Measuring is an old trick to save you some time and money, why buy the wrong height a couple times if you don't have to...
