I am working on a way to mount the sender for the temperature gauge directly against the cylinder. The sensor has an offset that prohibits me from getting my wrench on the hex to torque it down....I am making a nut with an extended hex.
I am also working on a way to be able to monitor my oil pressure without having a gauge up on the handlebars....I could live with a warning light.
When I am done with setting up the overdrive gears and I have the bypass orifice sized properly - I will no longer need the gauge. I could then mount a 1/16" npt to 1/8"npt adapter and a Briggs oil pressure sensor up on the head. This sensor has a value of 3-5psi - if the pressure drops below that the circuit is completed and would activate the warning light. (It currently would work with the stock pump at cruising speeds - but the light would likely come on anytime the rpm dropped below 3,000 rpm).

Now that's pretty cool. Looks like it will be a sanitary install too. Nice.

This shows the offset in the temperature sensor - it was originally designed for mounting under a spark plug, and I had to bend the copper mount to make it work in this location.
If you look close you can see the corners of the nut got rounded off as the wrench slipped off while I was torquing the nut in place.

So - I got a couple of stainless barrel nuts and cut one in half.
I then silver soldered a stainless washer on the cut end to make it a nut with a flange.
I will be able to torque this down properly with my torque wrench and box end wrench adapter.
I believe the length of the thread has some affect on the torque value - so I will use a drill in my lathe to shorten the threaded portion of the nut to match what the shorter (original) nut has.
Our warm riding weather has gone away for a while - it is dropping to 28 tonight and the high tomorrow will be 49.
