Sportster handlebars
01/11/13 at 13:36:18

I got some sportster handle bars to replace the stock bars, I like the more standard look of the sportster bars. I need to drill small holes for the control locating pins, but I am having a hell of a time doing it. The bars are already on the bike because i though it would be easy. I started the hole with a small drift making a spot for my drill-bit, but it just spins and spins and wont bite.
I was think of grinding off the pin and just putting a strip of thin rubber under the controls so they dont slide around.
Any ideas?

Great, I thought of that first, but needed some assurance. I don't know why it is so hard to drill those bars. Chrome is slippery, and the radius doesn't allow for the bit to dig in. Without the pin i will be able to get the controls right where i want them.

I think you have a dull bit...  Mine drilled fine...
Got another bit you could try?... Huh...

... another tip.... use the edge of a wood sharp chisel, or something to chip the chrome in the divot you made with the drift... then, the bit will bite...

... (bit bite?)... Hmmm?... Huh...
