How do I mount a sportster tank?
01/04/13 at 19:26:58

Anyone know the easiest way to mount a sportser tank. I know we have another thread talking about after market tanks but can someone please post pics of the bracket you may be using. I'm going for the least amount of mods to Frame as possible. How does ryca do it? I looked on their page and all I saw was a bracket that says it is for both seat and tank.

Depends on what one you get. They have different mounting tabs.
For the front mount on this one I welded a connector nut to the backbone, where I wanted it to sit.And on the rear I took the stock rear mount and welded it to the back of the Sporty tank so it bolts to the stock location.

This one has a rubber mounting set up Weld a steel strip on the backbone and it has rubber grommets that the bolts go through. On the rear mount I welded a tab to bolt up in the stock location. If you look there is a little silver spot under the right front corner of the tank, that is the bolt through the mounting strap.

I'm in an auction battle for a sportster tank right now, so while I wait I'm installing the mini apes. I hit a snag though. My old clutch cable wount reach and are dangerously frayed. I have universal cables here so I'm going to use them, I'm putting a picture up of the old and new next to each, my problem is how do I make the new catch on the clutch like the old one does so it will engage the clutch. Sorry I don't know the tech term for the housing that has two nuts that attach to the clutch.

Its not a very good photo sorry. The Sporty tank I brought already had the front tag,so I drilled a hole in it. I had a mount welded with a bolt on the frame. The rear I had a plate welded wide enough to drill 2 holes and used the original mounting bolts.

Yes that could work. But bear in mind that later you may want to remount the original tank one day.

Do you think I could buy a new one somewhere? The clutch cable adjuster.

usually I used to take a powerful soldering iron, soldering acid and solder.. I removed the old head cable, choose the desired length of the cable, and provided a new and soldered it. if new head for cable not, then you can apply the nipple from the spokes of a Bicycle wheel . there is only one little nuance - first you need to put on a new head on the cable, then a little share of the sinew of the cable and only then very thoroughly solder head cable to cable. if this is not done, the head very quickly would come off the cable . think I wrote enough clear, although the photo unfortunately not attach to the message.

For the black what I believe is a breather tube that usually connects from the top of the cylinder to the air box, do you just cut it and put on a small air filter?
