They don't have the right suspension, handlebars, ground clearance or footpeg position to ride dirt paths.

That's what I thought. I was just hoping to find a tire that works fairly well everywhere I ride. I have been contemplating a dual sport bike when I finish the Savage. I guess that is the direction I will go.

How do I get to the hidden club house after a rain?

I am mostly looking for the type of tire that bikes ran in the 60s and 70s. Most were very similar to a sport tour type thing.

I wouldn't put it completely out of the question, 16" rims work quite well with the savage. Just buying a 80/20 dual sport w/out knowing the OD on it has me leary.

I have been looking because I travel on some dirt roads a couple times a year. They're better than a dirt trail so full out dual sport bike isn't necessary. but tires that handle deep sand and rocks would be better.

Duro lists the 130/80-17 HF904 as 25.6" (my math works out to 25.2") diameter on a 17x2.15 wheel which is the dimension of the GS450T wheel, an increase of 1.8" diameter so I would expect that the seat height to raise .9" max. At what point do I measure seat height?

I was at a friend's house last week when he showed me his Duro HF904 tires that he bought for his Sportster. I knew then what I was going to do with my Savage that has been sitting for the past three years since I bought my Boulevard C90.

Well, you did the math, so I guess you don't. I am concerned with raising the seat and overall tire diameter. I don't want a higher seat height. I may be average height but I have short legs. Plus I lowered my fender a bit and don't want it to hit the tire. When I did the fender lowering, a before/after shot with a tape measures helped me and others visualize the difference instead of just relying on numbers.
