Competition for Ryca?
12/19/12 at 14:43:41

Since Ryca is venturing into bobbers,  it's only fitting that Blue Collar Bobbers would sell a Cafe kit! Cool

http://bluecollarbobbers.com/web/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.br...

The real question is whether or not a cafe based on a Ninja 250 will be better than one based on an LS650? Undecided

Dyno Charts:

The 250 twin:  usable 4,000 - 12,000 rpm:  torque 10-15 ft-lbs, hp 8@4K to 22@8K to 30@12K.
The 650 Single: Usable 2,500 - 5,500 rpm:  torque 32-36 ft-lbs, hp 15@2.5K to 32@5.5k

The Big Single has roughly double the torque with the same weight, meaning far better acceleration in the streets.

250 will out handle the Savage. Even my same wheelbase just as heavy as the Savage 250 Honda from the 60s handles better. And it started life as a Scrambler... that means dual sport in modern lingo.

And the little Ninjette can be one heck of a screamer. More tuning options than the Savage, better suspension components, better brakes, better tires...

Has anybody dynoed a ryca with intake/exhaust/jets? I assume it makes at least a little bit more HP than stock.

Interesting. It's a cafe racer based on a cafe racer. Sport bikes are nothing more than what cafe racers evolved into. I think it's official - cafe racers are now a fad.

I love the looks of the BCB EX250-based Cafe ... but have to agree with the above Post ... Care Racers are now officially a "fad" ... sad because fads are the result of a lot of "bandwagon jumping" which IMHO ultimately results in said interest becoming passe ...

That olive green Kawi looks like a Honda now. Much better lines than the stock outer space design... Wink

The BCB kits is based around the U.S. spec EX250-F (pre-2008 Ninja 250R) and would not fit my scooter which is a 2007 ZZ-R250 (EX250-H) ... same motor (thought geared/tuned differently) but completly different frame, fairings, wheel, suspension and instrumentation.

I think it is interesting to compare the horsepower and torque of the 250 Ninja and the S40/Savage. They have pretty comparable horsepower, but at different rpm. The Savage has about twice the torque; but in actual use the Ninja turns about twice as fast at any given road speed. Their weights are not identical, but are at least comparable. I think the real comparison should be not so much engine characteristics, but in (for lack of a better term) ground thrust. The combination of less torque geared lower results in similar thrust, I suspect. Odder yet, the Dynajet actually measures this ground thrust, and then converts it to engine numbers. Too bad the raw data - ground thrust - cannot seem to be charted, because the ground thrust very directly correlates to acceleration.

One word,... Ninja 500...
Okay,... one word and some numbers... Huh...

A cafe' Ninja 500 would shake me up...

I crashed a 500 before I got my Savage,... it had a 7,500rpm kick that was so addictive it should be illegal...
Best power curve ever,.. too bad the chassis couldn't keep up... Undecided...

@Serowbot- I had a Vulcan 500 years ago, if I remember correctly it's the same engine as the Ninja 500. It had plenty of get up and go, was quite responsive as to the throttle and had no issues at prolonged Interstate speeds.  I love the looks of naked racers and cafe racers and the Ninja makes for a great platform to start off.

Cheaper than the 250 in a lot of markets. We couldn't give them away at the shop out west. Everybody seemed to go from Ninjette to ZX10, GSXR1000 or R1.

We wouldn't take in 500 or 750 Vulcans, even the scrap buyers didn't want them. Too bad, a 500 with a springer is a decent little cruiser.

That green one that Perry posted in reply #6 is nice.  Just needs a classic cafe style fairing and it would be smokin'!
