Every Savage I've put together,I've run struts on it.I do that alot because I usually sell them and that gives the customer the option of putting shocks back on it.I'm 48 and that's what I ride.Solid mount seat.Those little springs for seats suck unless you're a little guy.I'm 6'3",270.But I also use a 150/90 rear tire at about 25 pounds.

Reply #16 - 12/17/12 at 11:12:46 I have a set of homemade struts if u want to try em made from square stock they look nice if u like em 10 bucks if not give em back I will be heading over bay bridge sat about 2pm if u want to meet me on 50 and get em look at my pic to see them on my bike

Any metal shop can make you the struts for cheap. 1/2-1" stock, 9/16" holes 9.5-10.5 inches on center. Depends on how much fender gap you want. And whether you want spacer washers or the "fun" of tapering the struts to fit your mounts perfectly.

I didn't like the struts because no matter how tight I got the hardware, there was still some unwanted movement compared to true rigid frames.

You can get pre bent tubing and axle plates fairly reasonably. Somebody on the forum here or on Do The Ton used to sell them, don't remember who. BUT, conversion to a true rigid frame is permanent...
