Suzuki Savage Air Filter
12/11/12 at 17:23:30

I just bought a 2004 suzuki savage ls650. Is there anyway I can take the old air filter off completely and put an aftermarket K&N Air Filter on? It seems hard to find the right dimensions for an air filter! Any help will be appreciated. I am from Ohio. Thanks.

If you're looking for a K&N that fits the stock air box the  K&N part number is SU - 6595. Don't know about the one that just clamps to the carb after you get everything out of the way.

Thanks for the replies. If you say I can, do you know where I can get the parts? I would like to completely take out the stock air filter and put a k&n filter on. Is it difficult to take off?

The obvious question - what do you think is wrong with the stock air filter? By most accounts a pleated paper filter gets out more "stuff" than an oiled foam one.

K&N filters aren't foam, they're cotton gauze and the particulates that may pass through are far too small do be damaging. Paper filters exist because they're cheap - not because they're good. They clog faster and are far too restrictive from the get-go.

There's an issue with some of the "pod"types that attach direct to the carb blocking off part of the intake.

This is true if you get one of the small pods that have a large step where the carb attaches.  Look for one that has a small step and will look fitted to the opening of the carb.

I trimmed the rubber edge on mine and put a little black silicone around the outside just to make sure it is still sealed.

Where in Ohio?

I have a NEW K&N Air filter for the factory airbox...asking $49.95 and I will ship it for free.

FYI...I am currently fabricating an air filter replacement for the factory airbox .....Will have them available just after the New Year...I will post availability and pics in January.

A drop-in replacement? I doubt you could compete with K&N for cost and if you could I highly doubt it would compete with them for quality or performance.

Not a drop-in replacement. this will replace the factory airbox with a conventional looking ait filter. It will be self explanatory when you see the pics.

The plan is to replace the stock airbox and the rubber extension tube that goes from the carb to the airbox with a solid PVC tune and clamp-on air filter. No pic of the whole arrangement yet but I have included a pic of the air filter it will use.
